The 2012 season would be a long one. The plan was no longer simply to cruise the Mediterranean: this was the year I would leave the Med behind and prepare for the Atlantic crossing.

Preparing to leave

I returned to France in July and worked through the usual commissioning list. After the previous year’s river expedition, Malua was once again being prepared as an ocean-going yacht. In early August the cruise finally began from Port St Louis.
