Malua hull lines

Malua

Exploring oceans, islands and coastlines — sharing our voyages, experiences and the places Malua has sailed.

Stories & Resources

My time on the water extends beyond Malua. These stories bring together passages on other vessels and a smaller boat-building project — experiences that add to my seamanship and offer a different perspective on Malua.

Eye Candy

A Bass Strait passage with Andrew aboard his Bavaria production yacht in February 2025. The trip from Eden to Tasmania offered a useful comparison with Malua: weather planning, preparation, watchkeeping, food and sleep all helped make the passage a success.

A further story about a Queensland cruise aboard Eye Candy will follow.

Sea Dragon

In January 2024 I set off for Cebu in the Philippines to help my friend Jim bring his Lagoon 420 catamaran to Australia. Two hulls, a recently purchased vessel and a delivery passage created a different experience from cruising aboard Malua.

This voyage will have its own fuller set of stories as I write them.

Malua Kayak

A return to building, on a much smaller scale. Using myrtle left from Malua’s construction, I began a strip-planked microBootlegger Solo kayak designed by Nick Schade. The separate blog follows the workshop, tools, forms, strongback and careful fitting of the timber strips.

The full accounts and continuing posts remain on their original blogs.
