I continued west from Puerto Rico through the Dominican Republic and Haiti before reaching Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n

Dominican Republic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From Puerto Rico the route crossed to the Dominican Republic, with me reaching Casa de Campo before continuing west along Hispaniola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haiti \u2014 \u00cele-\u00e0-Vache<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00cele-\u00e0-Vache was a particularly memorable stop. This is the poorest county I have ever visited. Local sailing boats were still an everyday means of transport and boats were being built ashore using traditional hand tools. The visit provided a glimpse of village life very different from the more developed Caribbean islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From \u00cele-\u00e0-Vache the next major destination was Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
